How does the roof replacement cost calculator work?
It converts the building footprint to sloped roof area using pitch, adds your waste allowance for materials, and combines material, labor, and tear-off and disposal costs. Enter local prices for a project-specific planning estimate.
Does this estimate include labor and tear-off?
Yes. Labor and tear-off with disposal are separate editable costs per roofing square. Roof complexity adjusts the labor line only; replace the sample rates with contractor pricing for your home.
How does roof pitch change the estimate?
A steeper pitch increases the sloped surface area compared with the footprint. The calculator uses the roof-area multiplier √(1 + (rise ÷ 12)²); access and safety costs still depend on the contractor and site.
How are asphalt shingle bundles estimated?
The calculator applies your bundles-per-square setting to roof area plus waste, then rounds up to a whole bundle. For metal, tile, and slate, material cost is based on the entered price per roofing square instead.
Are the prefilled roofing rates local quotes?
No. Prefilled material, labor, and tear-off amounts are editable example assumptions, not market averages or a contractor quote. Confirm product coverage, local pricing, roof condition, permits, flashing, and other project-specific items.
